It Takes a Village

Village made chocolate.  Cocoa beans from the local village farmers.  After drying they are brought to the Chocolat des Villages artisan factory for roasting.  Then they are ground into chocolate paste.  Sugar and cocoa butter are added to create these wonderful chocolates.  Discover the flavors of natural chocolate

How Chocolate is Made

Made by Hand. From tree to the Market. All Natural. Here are but a few of the careful steps required

Drying the Cocoa Beans

After harvesting the cocoa pods, farmers extract the beans and set them to ferment and dry in just the right conditions for superb flavor.

Roasting Cocoa Beans

The beans are roasted to reduce the moisture and to bring out the natural cocoa flavor

Grinding Nibs to Chocolate Paste

Stone Wheels grind the roasted bean nibs into chocolate. Sugar is added

Molding the Bars

Warm Chocolate is poured into molds and cooled. Then wrapped and taken to the marketplace

Project Hope and Fairness

Tom Neuhaus is the founder Project Hope & Fairness, Inc, established in 2006 to study the shocking inequity between the cocoa farmer and the cocoa consumer.  Tom lives in Cordes-sur-Ciel with his wife, Eve. He is currently developing a patisserie/chocolatier business that uses exclusively chocolate made Côte d’Ivoire
